Places to Play

There are two pickleball locations in Athens, Ohio.

I. The Athens Community Center (ACC)

Facility and Fees: Indoor Courts

Facility and Fees: Outdoor Courts

  • Four new outdoor pickleball courts are located behind the ACC. The courts are still a work in progress. Fencing, seating, etc. are on the way. The courts are available for play when construction crews are not working. The ACC Outdoor courts are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Courts cannot be scheduled (posting on Playtime is not a reservation). When all courts are full, player rotation as described by the ACC court rules is to be followed. There is no fee for use of the outdoor courts. Parking is free.

Open Play

  • Currently, there are no open play times at the ACC. Most use Playtime Scheduler to coordinate play and indoor court use. There is a new ACC court rotation policy effective December 2023 that takes effect when indoor courts are full.

Reservations

  • No reservations for outdoor courts. Courts are available on a first-come, first-served basis. When all courts are full, player rotation as described by the ACC court rules is to be followed.
  • One indoor court is available by reservation (for a fee) starting December 1, 2023. See message below from ACC regarding the reservation system. The remaining courts are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • Most ACC players use Playtime Scheduler to coordinate play and indoor court use.

Message From the Athens Community Center (ACC)

“Starting December 1st we [ACC] will allow individuals to rent one of the indoor pickleball courts for $10 an hour. The only court available for this is the court in the back left or what I would refer to as Pickleball Court #1. To reserve a court is exactly like if someone wanted to reserve a room. Contact the Athens Community Center to reserve the court and pay. This court will be usable with open play outside of rentals too (so if there are no scheduled rentals then any one can play on this court). The rental of it will just allow users to know for sure that they will have a court to play on. The rental of the court does not give free entry into the facility. Users will still have to either pay a day pass, use a punch card or use their membership to enter.”

“We will not take same day reservations as it will be too difficult for us to manage. So, a day in advance is minimum. Full payment is due at time of reservation for all requests placed. This is a flat fee that is for everyone.”

“A sign with hours the court is reserved for the day will be posted at that court within the first 30 minutes of the facility being opened.”

“When we have open pickleball time (like indicated on the monthly schedule I send out) there will still always be at least two courts open to play on and when court one is not reserved anyone can play on that as well.”

II. Ohio University Golf & Tennis Center (OUGTC)

Facility and Fees

  • Four indoor pickleball courts on tennis courts #1 and #2.
  • Four outdoor pickleball courts on tennis courts #5 and #6.
  • The OUGTC hours are 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. daily.
  • Courts are free for Ohio University Campus Recreation Tennis members. There is a $5 fee for open play. Pickleball courts are available most other times by reservation. The pickleball fee for non-members is $5 per hour, per person.
