There are two pickleball locations in Athens, Ohio.
I. The Athens Community Center (ACC)
Facility and Fees: Indoor Courts
- ACC has up to three indoor pickleball courts in the gymnasium pictured above. Use of the indoor pickleball courts is free for ACC and SilverSneakers members. Non-members pay a $5 day pass fee or can use a punch card for entry. Parking is free.
- Indoor pickleball courts are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Most ACC players use Playtime Scheduler to coordinate play and court use. When courts are full, if people are waiting to play, there is a new ACC court rotation policy effective December 2023.
- Times the ACC gym is available for pickleball varies each month.
Facility and Fees: Outdoor Courts
- Four outdoor pickleball courts located behind the ACC. are available on a first-come, first-served basis. When all courts are full, player rotation as described by the ACC court rules are to be followed. There is no fee for use of the outdoor courts. Parking is free.
Open Play
- Currently, there are no scheduled open play times at the ACC.
Reservations
- One indoor court is available by reservation (for a fee) starting December 1, 2023. More information can be found on the ACC website.
II. Ohio University Golf & Tennis Center (OUGTC)
Facility and Fees
- Four indoor pickleball courts on tennis courts #1 and #2.
- Four outdoor pickleball courts on tennis courts #5 and #6.
- The OUGTC hours are 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. daily.
- Courts are free for Ohio University Campus Recreation Tennis members. There is a $5 fee for open play. Pickleball courts are available most other times by reservation. The pickleball fee for non-members is $5 per hour, per person.
- Contact Ohio University GTC at (740) 593-4669 for information on whether paddles and balls are available for rent.
- Those who do not have a valid Ohio University Parking Permit will need a guest pass to park before 5:00 p.m. on a weekday. Ask for a guest parking pass when you arrive at the Golf and Tennis Center and pay your pickleball fee.
Open Play
The Ohio University GTC offers four open play times:
- Tuesday, 5:00 to 7:00 p.m
- Thursday, 5:00 to 7:00 p.m
- Saturday, 8:00 to 10:00 a.m.
- Sunday, 8:00 to 10:00 a.m.
The open play fee is $5.00 per person. Debit/credit/check (no cash) payment.
Reservations
- Pickleball courts can be reserved one week in advance for private play. Use Ohio University’s Online Reservation System or call (740) 593-4669 to reserve a court. The pickleball fee for non-members outside of open play times is $5 per hour, per person.
